
Erik is a talented multi-instrumentalist, with a particular passion for world music and unusual ethnic instruments. This does not stop him from enjoying and playing western instruments, whether in a traditional or innovative way.
VOICE: The power and diversity of the human voice is a wonderful creative tool - a constant element in most of Erik's work and not confined to words only!
GUITAR: Erik has played the acoustic guitar since he was a child. He has a collection of acoustic and semi-acoustic instruments. He is particularly interested in the West African approach to guitar.
PIANO: Erik has played piano (and keyboard) from an early age.
DJEMBE: West African hand drum - the master drum.
BALAFON: West African xylophone, lovingly termed the "talking wood"
MBIRA: A Thumb-Piano from Zimbabwe with various derivative instruments across Africa -Kalimba (South Africa);
BIRAM BAU: Brazilian Bow & Gourd with overtone harmonics controlled by opening and closing the mouth of the gourd against your lower body while striking the single string for note and rhythm - the pitch is further fluctuated by changing the tension of the string as you play.
FLUTES: Orchestral; ethnic and blown pipes of all description - wood, plastic and metal
